Thank you for your offer inviting me to the summer English course in your school. As for my

choice of the two courses, I’d certainly prefer the four-week course for 60 hours of study. This

would allow me more time to see your beautiful country while learning the language. I would like

to do some traveling and make a few new friends.

Of all the subjects I’m learning at school, I like English best. I have been learning English for 6

years and now I am able to listen, speak, read and write in English. I hope to take this chance to

improve my spoken English as much as possible. Besides, I’d like to have home-stay for a couple

of days so that I can know better about English habits and customs. I believe I will have a

wonderful time in England this summer.

[二]Recently we have had a heated discussion on whether people should keep pets at home in

cities. Some students think it’s a good idea to keep pets because old people who live alone at home

can get some comfort from pets.. Besides, getting along well with animals will make our life

interesting. On the contrary, the other students are against the idea. In their opinion, if too many

people keep pets at home, it is bad for the environment. What is worse, pets may make too much

noise and even attack people.

I like animals, so I don’t think it is bad to keep pets at home. But we must take some measures to

prevent them from polluting our environment.

[三]Now more and more people are keeping pets at their homes, but they do not take good care of

them. These pets have brought some trouble to other people. For example, the waste of the pets

and the noises in the early morning or at midnight prevent people from enjoying their life. Today a

child was even bitten by a dog, which caused a fierce argument between the neighbors. Will all the

people who keep pets please learn from this accident and look after your pets well so that such

accident will never happen again.

[四] Recently our class had a heated discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of riding a

bike to school. The following are the results.

Riding a bike is an environmentally friendly means of transport because it can help reduce carbon emissions and save energy. Besides, riding a bike saves much time when there are many traffic jams in rush hour. What’s more, making riding a daily exercise routine is beneficial to our health. It burns calories and improves our physical condition.

However, there are also some disadvantages. Bike-riding can be easily affected by bad weather, especially when it rains or snows. Also, bike lanes are sometimes occupied by illegally parked vehicles, which may become a danger to the safety of riders.

As far as I’m concerned, the advantages of riding a bike outweigh the disadvantages. I hope effective measures are taken to ensure the riders’ safety.

[五] Since the Copenhagen Climate Conference was held in 2009, carrying out a low carbon economy has been a hot topic. Recently our class had a heated discussion about it.

Through the discussion, we are fully aware of the necessity of carrying out a low carbon economy in our country. At present, people pay more attention to economic growth than environmental protection. With the increase of cars and factories, large quantities of carbon gases are let off, causing serious air pollution. If the situation continues, natural resources will be used up and environment will be destroyed.

During the discussion, my classmates put forward the following suggestions about how to take a green development path. First, more trees should be planted to expand forest coverage. Second, clean and renewable energy should be developed. Third, many things that people throw away should be recycled and reused.

On a personal note, I think everyone should do his part to live a low carbon life. We should try to save every bit of water and electricity. We should use public transportation as much as possible. Besides, we should call on people around us to make contributions to creating a green homeland.

[六] As we all know, the Internet is playing an important part in our daily life. We often read news at home and abroad and learn English by ourselves on the Internet. Sometimes we send e-mails to our families as well as our friends. Besides, we listen to music, enjoy films and play computer games on it. We can even do shopping without leaving our homes.

However, it has its disadvantages. Many students waste too much time playing the electronic games, which has a bad effect on their studies. What’s worse, the bad information on the Internet does great harm to them.

I hope every student can make use of the Internet properly for their studies.

I am writing to ask whether you are able to do me a favor . I want to have a pen for some time. With such a pen friend , I think I can share with her our traveling experiences, taking care of pets , or whatever we have in common.
